The Academy at EC3 2023-24
What is the Academy? The Academy is a program that allows high school juniors to take on a mixed approach to college, some high school teachers, some college professors. Students will have access to enough credits to earn an Associate’s degree.
Students are allowed to take Dual Credit college courses for a substantial discount while earning high school credits as well. Average classes are 3 credit hours. Physical textbooks are all covered; however there are often digital content fees which will be the responsibility of the student. Those are added to the bill.
Juniors-students are selected from across the district meeting high standards of academic success and College Readiness Benchmarks on ACT. ACT benchmarks must be met in three areas, English 18, Math 22 and Reading 20.

Some students may choose to add an additional Math class during their junior year, however they must still take a math class their senior year. English must be taken their Senior year as well.
Seniors will have to take ENG 102 for senior English credit to count per state of KY rule on taking English/Language Arts each year plus take a Math course, MAT 155, STA 220 or higher.
*FYE 105-Summer course, all students will take this class during the summer. This class will be online and last 12 weeks. This class however is only discounted by 1/3 so students must pay 2/3 of the cost. This class is about $400. We are still exploring ways to reduce this cost, but we were unsuccessful last year. This class is mandatory to be in the program.
This model will allow students to take classes on a MW and TR schedule with Fridays being open for studying and group work. The classes will be taught at EC3 and will last until 11:45 each day, student can choose to go back to their home school on the afternoon bus at 12:40 to take additional elective classes or stay and take pathway classes at EC3. Some students will choose to stay at EC3 and use the time as a study hall.
Students will follow the HCS calendar during their junior year at EC3, but during their senior year they will follow the ECTC academic calendar.
Currently every high school student is eligible for two free classes during junior or senior year, this will lower your bill.
ACT DATES-Students do not have to have qualifying scores to turn in application, just a planned test date.
Sept 14th-This weekend, too late to sign up (Scores available on Sept 24)
Oct 26th, must sign up by Sept 20th (Scores available on Nov 5)
Dec 14th, must sign up by Nov 8th
Costs:
There could be some fees for online classes, typically $50-100 per class.
Currently the district is covering the cost for families that continue to meet Federal Free/Reduced Lunch status. Families must fill out an lunch application each year to remain eligible.
Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester to stay in the program. If students fail to do this, they may be sent back to their high school for regular classes. Failing in this program will jeopardize graduation just like failing high school courses.
